  • 0.6.0 - 9 May 99
    Added lots of features:
  • The program can now load Headline Providers from the list stored at Userland.com. To use this incredibly cool feature:
  1. Start it up
  2. Go to the settings
  3. Press the "Add Userland's Providers"
  4. Scroll through the list and mark the interesting providers as Active.
  5. Press Ok.
  • Clicking new "!" (Visit) button takes you to the home page of the current Headline Provider. The tooltip of the button shows the name and description of the Headline Provider.
  • Each provider now stores a Data URL and a Site URL. The Site URL locates the actual headline provider site. This URL is used when the "!" (visit) button is pushed.  The Data URL locates the XML file which lists the headlines on the site. This URL is used to fetch the
    headlines for the site at the specified time intervals and when the Refresh button is pushed.

    Note: If upgrading from 0.5.0 you will have to add a Site URL for each of your Headline Providers for the Visit button to work.
  • Added in a Copyright and Vertex Development logo to About.
  • The settings now include a background color for each Headline Provider.
  • The product can now check for new updates using the emerging XSA standard. Every 48 hours (this is a beta product), or when "Check" button pushed in Settings. Can turn off auto checking in Settings.
  • Settings now include two important buttons:
  • Periodically check for product updates.  This will use the XSA
    protocol to see if there is a new version available. It will
    make a check once every 48  hours if left running continuously.
  • Each provider is now tagged with an Origin (where did the record come from). This will become useful really soon. Current origins are: Userland, Intrinsic, User, and RSS Maker.
  • Settings are saved right after the OK button is pushed.
  • The Next and Previous provider buttons, as well as the automatic timer-driven flipping, now sequences only through the Active Headline Providers.
  • Expire this code at the end of May. Message box and option to visit home page, with increasing frequency once it expires.
  • Disabled the hot tracking code until it is working properly.
