The SlashDot site is once again accessible. They changed to a new XML format, "backslash," and this format is now supported.
The Provider list in the Settings dialog now allows multiple selection. You can delete, activate, or deactivate the selected items all at once.
It is now possible to change the order of the Headline Providers using the "Move Up" and "Move Down" arrow buttons in the Settings dialog. These buttons can be used when a contiguous range of
providers is selected in the list.
Providers can now be loaded from the list at xmlTree.com using the "Add xmlTree Providers..." button. This site currently includes 189 providers in formats readable to Headline Viewer (Note that there is some overlap in the providers from the various lists supported by Headline Viewer). Of interest is the fact that this list actually categorizes sites using a Dewey Decimal model. Full support for this categorization model will be included in a future release.
The General Tab of the Settings dialog now includes buttons to set the fonts for the Articles and Active Providers lists.
The F5 key now refreshes the current provider, just like pushing the Refresh button.
You will be prompted to subscribe to the announcement and "chat" mailing lists when you first run this version. No information is transmitted unless you press the "Yes" button. If you press the "Later" button you will be asked again the next time that you start the program.
The headlines are read from the current provider when it is clicked on, if its time has come. This avoids flicker and also ensures that the articles are up to date.
The hourglass cursor is now shown when exiting from Settings while the Active Provider List is rebuilt. This can take a second or two on a busy machine.
Fixed a problem where the "flip to next provider" timer would expire just seconds after a click in the active provider list, causing a nearly immmediate flip.
Fetches from text-based providers that time out will simply return an empty article list instead of displaying the message "Error in GrabStoriesText".
Fixed some images for built-in sites.
Built-in providers added since the previous version are now added automatically the first time that a new version is run.
The Settings dialog includes a new Confirmation area. From here you can choose to be prompted when deleting a single provider or when deleting multiple providers.
The Providers tab of the Settings dialog now lists the Origin of each provider (built-in, entered by the user, or loaded from userland.com, alchemy.openjava.org, or xmltree.com).
The Provider Image is now allowed to be as wide as the Active Provider List above it. This handles some images that are slightly wider than the "regulation" button-sized images.
Fixed a bug where HTML entity characters in text-based providers were not handled.
Fixed a bug where HTML entity characters accidentally "ate" one character beyond the end of the entity.
