Some great new features and bug fixes:
- The program is now fully skinnable. A
Skin controls the appearance of the Main Window, along with its
shape. Right now, Headline Viewer comes with two simple skins. You
can switch to a new skin using the Skins tab of the Settings dialog.
The tab lists all of the skins in the Skins directory. By default
this is the "Skins" directory within the directory where
Headline Viewer was installed. Clicking on the name of a skin will
display a preview of how Headline Viewer will look on the right, and
it will also show you more information about the skin at the bottom.
This information includes the name of the skin, and the name, email
address, and web site of the skin's author. You can visit Headline
Viewer's Skin Site by pressing the link below this information, and
you can also learn how to build a skin of your own by pressing
another link.
- The Skin Creation Guide may be found at
http://www.vertexdev.com/HeadlineViewer/skinguide.html.
- An interactive "To-Do" list
now provided. The To-Do list will lead you, step-by-step, through
the major features of Headline Viewer, and then politely put itself
away once the user has finished each step. Its cool, really cool.

- Updated Providers (these are fixed
automatically when you upgrade):
Themes.org works once again
Ars Technica - Site URL
Geek News - Data format
Internet Alchemy - Data URL
SmoG Alert - Data URL
CamWorld - This site is no longer syndicating its content; it has
been removed
- Greatly improved memory utilization,
reducing it to approximately 1/3 of the previous version. Headline
Viewer is now far lighter in weight than a web browser.
- New Settings tab, "External
Provider Lists". The 4 buttons on this tab were moved here from
the Providers tab to reduce clutter and to make room for more
detail. For each provider list, the date it was last loaded is
shown. If the provider list has never been loaded (or if you last
loaded it in a version prior to 0.9.0) then the string
"(never)" is shown instead.
- New text format character,
"H". This character is used when the day and time portions
of a date are encoded in distinct lines of a text-based provider's
output. The "H" (Hours) appends the line of text to the
text from any other "D" (Date) line. The append is done
after the entire record has been processed.
- New mailing list subscription option
for the chvskin list. This list is for those who use and create
skins for Headline Viewer.
- When the "Move Up" and
"Move Down" buttons in the Providers tab of the Settings
dialog are held down, they will now repeat. This makes it much
easier to adjust the order of the providers. Note also that you can
(and have been able to for a while) select more than one provider
and move them all simultaneously. If you hold down the Shift key
while clicking
the button, the repeat interval will be decreased by a factor of 10.
- Fixed a bug which would needlessly
reload text-based providers when they were clicked in the Active
Providers List.
- Removed some blinkiness when changing
providers.
- The horrid blinkiness when deleting a
bunch of providers has been removed.
- Fixed a bug which would make the
buttons on the main dialog show upeven if supposedly hidden, when
the dialog was sufficiently narrow.
- Dropping an URL on to the Site Image no
longer generates a runtime
error.
- The "Make Inactive" context
menu command on the Active Provider List is now somewhat faster.
- Large provider images no longer overlap
the "Active" checkbox in the Providers tab of the Settings
dialog.
- The Data URLs of certain sites are now
protected. When you examine such a provider in the Settings, the URL
will not be shown. Instead, the field will display the string
"(Protected)".
- Fixed a rare bug that could cause the
message "Error in lstArticles_DblClick!" to appear if the
number of stories for a provider decreased when the provider was
refreshed as a result of the first click of a double click sequence.
- Fixed a rare bug that could cause use
of the Statistics tab to cause a crash if there were no active
providers (b21).
- Fixed a problem with duplicate
providers from StartsHere.net (a file extension changed and both the
RSS090 and RSS091 versions were being loaded).
