This release is a major update to Headline Viewer. We have added lots of new features and fixed many issues in an effort to make Headline Viewer easier and more intuitive to use. We see Headline Viewer as your personal information hub. Going forward are committed to making it easier to get content into Headline Viewer, helping you manage and filter it , and then getting it out of Headline Viewer to share with friends and co-workers.

Some of the new features:
We have updated the design of our add to Headline Viewer buttons. The new designs can be seen below:
These buttons are for web site owners who want publicize their news feeds and allow one click subscription to their feeds for Headline Viewer users.
On clicking on the button Headline Viewer will ask the user which category to put the feed in. Once a category is selected the feed will be added to it and the latest headlines downloaded.
If you are currently using Headline Viewer, try it by clicking on the button above. It will subscribe you to our News feed.
Remember Headline Viewer must be running for the above to work!
To help you build buttons tailored to your news feed we have created the Headline Viewer button generator. It should be very easy to operate but as always let us know if you have difficulty.
If you decide to use a Headline Viewer button on your site let us know. We may feature your site here or even add it to the master provider listing.
We have just released a new version of Headline Viewer. This version has a couple of exciting new features I want to tell you about.
The first is a popup blocker. Since we started working with the integrated browser in Headline Viewer we have noticed that many of the pages displayed by our integrated providers are serving popup advertisements. This combined with our unique auto-flip feature could bury your desktop in unwanted Internet Explorer windows. To avoid this situation we have implemented a blocking feature that prevents the integrated
browser from displaying any new windows. When Headline Viewer detects a popup
it displays a message (shown right) on the browser title bar. If for any reason
you want to see a popup window holding down the 'Ctrl' key will disable this
feature. For example you can display any link in a new window by holding down
'Shift' and 'Ctrl' while you click on it.
The second new feature is our improved navigation via the 'Next' and 'Previous' buttons. Clicking on the drop-down (little down arrow) part of these buttons displays a menu with all the titles of the next or previous articles for the current provider in it. Clicking on any of these will bring you directly to that article. These menus also have quick links to the next and previous providers. See below:
There is a new preview release of Headline viewer in the download section.
We are really excited about this version. It has all the major features for 0.9.8 including a built-in browser. It looks great (see screenshot below) and works really well. Anyway don't just take our word for it, download it and try it out for yourself!
All that remains to be done for the full release is tidy up a few options, redo the help, take some more screenshots and put some licensing information in the installer.
Headline viewer is being revived... Many things have changed in the world of news syndication since the last release (July 2001). Things have also changed here at headlineviewer.com; we are under new ownership (SeventhWave Software). Over the last few months we have been working hard to bring not only the software but also the website and documentation up to date.
There will be more information to follow. As you can see from the website the target date for the next release is March 1st. For now there is a preview release of Headline Viewer on the download site. Enjoy the new website, download the preview and check back here on Feb 1st.
Headline Viewer now supports the Atom syndication standard. Atom is the latest standard for distributing Headlines, Weblog Articles, etc. In addition we still support RSS (in all its versions).
Now with one click of a button you can share interesting articles you find
in Headline Viewer with friends and coworkers via email. Just click the "Send" button and Headline Viewer will create an email with the title, description
and a link to the article in your email program. You can then address it and add a personal message and send it out.
