This release is a major update to Headline Viewer. We have added lots of new features and fixed many issues in an effort to make Headline Viewer easier and more intuitive to use. We see Headline Viewer as your personal information hub. Going forward are committed to making it easier to get content into Headline Viewer, helping you manage and filter it , and then getting it out of Headline Viewer to share with friends and co-workers.

Some of the new features:


Atom support

Headline Viewer now supports the Atom syndication standard. Atom is the latest standard for distributing Headlines, Weblog Articles, etc. In addition we still support RSS (in all its versions).
What does this mean for you? In short: lots more content! There are many weblogs and news sources out there supporting Atom now. Just look out for links to Atom feed links and drag them into Headline Viewer.


New user interface

The old category and provider lists have been replaced with a single News Feeds tree. This is a simpler and more intuitive way of navigating and organizing the hundreds of feeds that Headline Viewer is capable of storing.



Also, as you can see from the picture, each feed now indicates how many articles it contains (the number in blue). We also have new icons for the tree. They are as follows:
- Category
- Feed contains articles
- Feed is empty
- Feed is being downloaded
- Feed could not be downloaded


Share articles via email

Now with one click of a button you can share interesting articles you find in Headline Viewer with friends and coworkers via email. Just click the "Send" button and Headline Viewer will create an email with the title, description and a link to the article in your email program. You can then address it and add a personal message and send it out.

Over the past few weeks we have been doing a major provider list update. We have done the usual clean out of dead feeds and added some nice new ones. What makes this updated worthy of comment is that we changed all the Moreover feeds to their nice new RSS 2.0 formated feeds. As we include several hundred Moreover feeds in the built in provider list this update took quite a while!

The new moreover feeds have much better metadata than the old ones. For Headline Viewer users this means the article descriptions are much better. They now contain a 2 to 3 line summary of the article contents. Here's an example:

We have updated the design of our add to Headline Viewer buttons. The new designs can be seen below:

These buttons are for web site owners who want publicize their news feeds and allow one click subscription to their feeds for Headline Viewer users.

On clicking on the button Headline Viewer will ask the user which category to put the feed in. Once a category is selected the feed will be added to it and the latest headlines downloaded.

If you are currently using Headline Viewer, try it by clicking on the button above. It will subscribe you to our News feed.

Remember Headline Viewer must be running for the above to work!

To help you build buttons tailored to your news feed we have created the Headline Viewer button generator. It should be very easy to operate but as always let us know if you have difficulty.
